Magical Melbourne

After settling in at our new place we explored the local neighbourhood of Glen Iris and felt really lucky to be based within a 20 minute tram ride of Downtown but with plenty of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and cafes on our doorstep. We took the tram into town and visited the Melbourne Museum because we had heard there was a decent Aboriginal exhibition there together with plenty of cultural history. We spent a very pleasant and informative couple of hours at the Museum and walking in the surrounding park and sunshine 😎

We always like to walk around in a new area getting a real feel for the place and seeing so much more than on a bus or in a car. Most cities have free walking tours or suggested walking guides and Melbourne is no exception. Our host had kindly obtained a Lonely Planet Guide for us and some walking maps of the city. We opted for the laneways and streets walk which takes in the architecture and local businesses. The walk took us just under two hours and we rewarded ourselves afterwards with some scrummy cake and coffee - a must when in Melbourne!
