Whilst enjoying our downtime here on the French Riviera I have also been busy planning our travels for early in the New Year.
Originally we hoped to get away early in December, taking a 3 month trip finding somewhere warm to escape the winter weather in the northern hemisphere
As it turned out we landed a gig in the south of France for the month of December with a couple of other assignments here in France in Limoges and Limoux.
The original plan was to travel to Thailand. Aside from a couple of weeks in Singapore we have not been to anywhere in Asia and thought it was about time we rectified that.
We spent September organising our itinerary and had everything in place when political protests kicked off in Bangkok. Things seemed to settle down and then, for a time escalated. Previous protests have been violent and we contacted friends in Bangkok who explained that the situation could escalate.
Elections were called for early Feb. Slap bang in the middle of our visit.
We were not unduly concerned for our safety but we were worried about any disruption the protests may cause to our travel plans within in the kingdom. After much deliberation we decided to abandon our trip to Thailand.
The good news is that we did not decide to cancel our plans to travel in January and February of the New Year but instead we will be headed West swapping the French Riviera for the Mayan Riviera!
It has been a bit manic sorting accommodation and flights but we have managed to secure some good deals and we are very excited about our up and coming trip!
I'm so sorry to hear this was so hectic for you two! It's very inspiring to see you making the best of the situation though. I've been a fan of your blog for a while now and I love hearing all about your adventures together! I aspire to be like you two one day! :)
ReplyDeleteHello ladies, I'm so sorry that your trip to Thailand got cancelled but this is for selfish reasons - we wanted to meet you. :) The truth is that it turns out there is talk of a coup happening on Monday (Jan. 13th), taking place in Bangkok. And there is a scheduled demonstration on our very street in Chiang Mai tomorrow (Jan.12), so we'll see what happens. The Mayan Riviera is gorgeous and we're sure you'll have a great time there! :)
