NYE 2013

So it is NYE and Della and I are apart. Not the way we planned it but a client in need is a client in deed! We could not say no and we are so glad to have been able to help out. So here I am in an apartment in Nice whilst Della and her canine chums are tucked up in a lovely home on a vineyard near Limoux!

Since our last update we have spent time together in Carcassonne and travelled down to the French Riviera where we have spent the best part of a month in an apartment in Nice. We are a couple of blocks from the seafront and central to everything. It really is the perfect location and we have had a great time here. We have been pet sitting a gorgeous Bengal cat who has been a delight to look after.

We have managed to explore as whilst we have visited Nice on previous trips to the south of France we have not had the opportunity to see so much of the town. It has been lovely especially as we have had such glorious weather and we have been able to take our time enjoying the town.

The added bonus of glorious weather,  aside from Christmas Day and Boxing Day we have not needed a coat! and the festive season has made our stay here really special. Della has been back and forth, undertaking an assignment in Limoges making our time together here all the more special.

Christmas was a low key affair but just perfect. We had planned to have a picnic on the beach but the wet weather put paid to that so we found a super place which caters for vegetarians Ma Nolans, an Irish bar where we had a sumptuous lunch and a bottle of pinot grigio. One of the things we like most about basing ourselves here in Nice is the close proximity to Italy and hence the Italian influence not only in the architecture but also in the food available in local restaurants and also at the local market which also includes a significant amount of produce from nearby Corsica.

For the most part we have had leisurely lie ins, walks along the Promenade Anglais,  enjoyed exploring the cobbled streets of the Old Town, spent time at the beach reading and relaxing, had lunches al fresco and enjoyed socco and vin chaud at the Christmas Market.

All in all it has been the perfect wound down to the end of 2013.
