Birthday celebrations

Wednesday 23/03/16

The boat was due to start the cruise at 7.30 so at 6 just as the sun was rising we had a cuppa in bed and Della opened her cards. We showered and dressed and then went out on deck just as the Captain was starting to leave the mooring. We had a scrummy breakfast whilst sailing down the river.

We were out on the river for about two hours and saw kingfishers and Brahminy kites, fishermen and mangroves. Mostly it was the peacefulness that we enjoyed, it was really relaxing and a lovely way to start the day.

When we returned to the mooring we had a couple more hours on board to pack and read.

Before we left the team came on board with a birthday cake for Della which was a lovely surprise. We enjoyed it with a refreshing cup of ginger tea before leaving with our driver and our last couple of nights in Negombo.

The drive from Bentota took just under two hours. On arrival we were very pleased with our hotel choice. A smallish hotel with just 18 rooms. We had opted for the superior room which gave us a private balcony with oceanfront views. After unpacking and checking out the infinity pool we found the bar and enjoyed a G & T whilst watching the sunset.

In the evening we had our dinner on a table beside the beach and under the palms and stars. It was magical and a great end to Della's birthday. When we got back to our room we were surprised by a knock on the door and the delivery of yet another birthday cake! Priceless.
