Road Trip - 2014

So the day finally dawned when we set off in Reggie, our much loved VW camper van, for a road trip in Europe.

We had the bones of an itinerary and, Dubrovnik, Croatia was our intended destination however, on account of poor weather conditions in Croatia we opted to stay a while longer in Italy.

We took the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk and ultimately, our trip took us through Belgium, with a couple of nights near Bruges, Vresse-sur-Samois (Ardennes), and on to Luxembourg. From Luxembourg we made our way to Alsace following the scenic wine route and then travelled to Arbois and Lac Chailain in the Jura, France. Grenoble and Annot were our next and last overnight stops before we crossed the border into Italy.

In Italy we travelled to beautiful Lake Garda and stayed overnight in Pescheira del Garda and from there onwards to Venice. We stayed for 4 nights just outside of Venice at which point we made the decision to abandon travelling to Croatia on this trip and to return to Lake Garda for a longer more leisurely stay.

Back at Lake Garda we basically circumnavigated the lake until it was time to return to France and a pet and house sitting gig in the Vaucluse, Provence.

At the end of the pet and house sit we then travelled south to the Carmargue. After a few days and as the temperature heated up we began the journey north stopping in Beaucaire, Avignon, Uzes, Violes, Beaune, and Nancy before leaving France and returning to Bruges with stops in Luxembourg and Ghent.

Our return ferry crossing was from Calais to Dover.

In total we covered over 2000kms and had simply the best time!
