Road Trip 2014 - Grenoble and Napoleon's Route

The fine and dry weather continued as did our journey south. We had opted to take the slower, more scenic route down to Provence and the mountain passes and valleys certainly afforded us some spectacular scenery.

Grenoble was a sprawling town set right in the valley amidst the towering Alps all around. It was impossible to capture on camera but suffice it to say our first glimpse took our breath away.

After a full day of challenging driving conditions (lots of hairpin bends!), we arrived at our pitstop.
We had an overnight stay at Le Bois de Cornage campsite just outside of Grenoble and the next day made an early start for our onward journey to the Gorges du Verdon and an overnight at a small village in the mountains called Annot. The campsite was set by the side of the river (Camping Riviera!), and the evening was our first balmy one. A whiff of summer was in the air!
