Merida and Peurto Morelos

Our last Sunday in Mexico we spent travelling and browsing the large town of Merida. We had heard that Merida was a colonial city worthy of a visit and as the local market was also held on Sundays we figured this would be a good stopover on our way back east.
It would be fair to say we were disappointed. We are not big fans of large cities at the best of times and maybe the heat and the grubbiness didn't help but we were underwhelmed to say the least. The market was also a let down being full of food stalls selling junk and convenience foods. It was busy as all the locals were in the park which didn't lend anything positive to our experience.
We did browse some fabulous murals housed in a local building and our accommodation over night at Cascadas de Merida was superb with a very friendly host and a scrummy breakfast!
We are not sorry we visited because it did break up the 7 hour coach journey back to Cancun but we doubt we will visit again.
