Montsegur & Mountains.

Close by to our overnight accommodation was the commune of Montsegur, famous for its fortification Chateau de Montsegur. It is described as one of the "Cathar castles" but is is actually of a later period.

The weather was sunny and clear so a perfect day for driving up the mountain to enjoy the views.

The village of Montsegur is tiny with a handful of cafes and a tourist information office where we picked up a map showing a couple of walking trails which we followed around the village - we had some great views of the Chateau and also of the surrounding countryside and  mountain ranges.

We left Montsegur for the ski station of Mont d'Olmes - the drive was windy and long and, unfortunately, the weather became cloudier so the views were not so great. Still, it was good to visit the area and once again enjoy a new part of France.
