Tangalle

Saturday 12/03/16

Late to rise we breakfasted on the terrace before spending the day poolside. The weather was perfect with a gentle breeze keeping us from getting too warm. We read, swam and updates the blogs. A lovely relaxing day before moving on tomorrow and the beaches on the south coast at Tangalle.

Sunday 13/03/16

We had arranged for a driver to pick us up at 11am so after a leisurely breakfast we packed and then paid up before leaving on the 1.5hr journey to Tangalle and the Serein Beach hotel which was to be our accommodation for the next three nights. We arrived about 1pm and after a welcome drink of water melon juice we went to our room. We were lucky to have Room 10 on the top floor with a balcony and wonderful views of the Indian Ocean.

It was very warm in our room so we put on the fan opened the balcony doors and took in the view. Later in the afternoon when the temperature had cooled a little we headed out to get our bearings. We walked along the beach in the direction of the harbour and continued walking until we reached the harbour about two hours later!

The sea was quite rough and the waves were crashing on the shore but the beach is quite lovely with palm trees and coconuts and little shack cafes dotted along the beach. There were pretty fishing boats in the harbour but as it is a working harbour it was a bit industrialised and smelly in parts! We decided to take a three wheeler back to a nearby watering hole where we had a Lion beer while looking out to sea!

We showered and went out for a bite to eat a little later and luckily next door they were having a BBQ of fish and chicken plus a buffet of rice and curry. For £4 each we had the rice and curry buffet which also included a soup starter and a dessert of fruit, banana fritters, sweet hoppers and syrup! We were stuffed by the time we were finished but it was all delicious. The best bit though was sitting at a table in candlelight, on the beach, eating our supper under the stars! Priceless.
